Having braces won’t ruin your Halloween!  Dress up, go trick-or-treating, eat candy… have fun!  Of course, you have to be careful when it comes to eating candy.  Anything sticky, chewy or hard should be avoided.  Our concern is that you might damage the braces.  Chomping down on a hard candy and/or eating sticky candies like caramels and taffy might break, displace or bend the brackets, elastics and wires.

Good News…

The good news is, there are plenty of choices that pose no risk to your braces.  Things like peanut butter cups and chocolate are just a couple of examples.  Just use a common-sense approach, enjoy the risk-free candy and avoid the rest.

Remember to Brush…

All that sugar needs to be brushed away.  It’s more important than ever to brush your teeth during braces.  Bacteria can build up around the braces and cause decalcification if you’re not properly brushing.
