Your Final Orthodontic Result Depends on Your Retainer
Meet Debra. She will be removing your braces when that exciting times comes. Debra is a registered dental hygienist and will reveal the final results of your braces and provide you with a customized retainer for you. She knows the importance of retention just as much as anyone on the team.
Failure to wear your retainers as prescribed could result in the relapse of your teeth, which essentially means your teeth moving back to their original positions.
Retainer Etiquette: Dos & Don’ts
WEAR your retainer for 24 hours each day. Your retainer should only come off when you eat, when you are cleaning them, or when you are participating in sports that require a mouth guard or while swimming.
CLEAN your retainer every day! Use a toothbrush, toothpaste, and cool water to scrub your retainer to remove bacteria and plaque buildup. We recommend a periodic use of denture cleaner or clear mouthwash during the cleaning process.
KEEP pets away from your retainer when not in use and never wrap in a napkin where they can be reached by pets and also mistaken as trash.
PROTECT your retainer by keeping them in the protective case we provided for you.
AVOID heat. Never use hot or boiling water to clean your retainer, and never leave your retainer in a hot car.
Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far.
Remember to follow the doctors’ instructions and wear your retainers the number of hours prescribed.
More In-House Services for Your Convenience
We create custom retainers for every patient, and they are created in house for your convenience. Our technician Ernest efficiently runs our lab and is in charge of making a variety of orthodontic appliances and retainers specially designed for each patient. So if you are traveling from out of town, you will have your appliances ready that same day!
Remember to bring your retainers to all retention appointments. Also, if lost or broken, please call us immediately.
Instead of impressions for initial models and some appliances we are now able to use an intra-oral scanner. The carestream scanner takes a video digital imprint of the teeth and gums from which digital models and appliances such as expanders and retainers can be made.
The Guardian System
Our trained staff utilizes their Carestream Intra-Oral scanner to make two clear retainers to always give you a back-up should something happen to one of your retainers.
In addition, they will print a resin model of your teeth in their current positions in case you lose your retainers, and if your teeth slightly move a new retainer can be made from this model that will help your teeth return to their proper positions. This has been an enormous benefit to maintaining orthodontic correction.
